  • Ripple and Flutterwave partner to expand RLUSD payments across Africa.
  • RLUSD integration aims to improve settlement speeds and liquidity.
  • Flutterwave plans broader stablecoin adoption through Ripple infrastructure support.

Ripple and Flutterwave are partnering strategically to grow RLUSD-powered cross-border payments in Africa. The partnership brings together Ripple’s blockchain technology with Flutterwave’s comprehensive payment network, establishing fresh avenues for quicker and more effective cross-border transactions. The deal coincides with Ripple’s investment in Flutterwave’s Series E fundraise. Under the agreement, the companies will incorporate Ripple’s stablecoin “RLUSD”, the Ripple Payments network, and the XRP Ledger into Flutterwave’s payment platform.

Both companies are making RLUSD one of the settlement tools for businesses involved in cross border trade, as digital payment becomes increasingly popular in Africa. Furthermore, the partnership aims to decrease the delays in transactions and enhance liquidity availability for businesses spanning various markets.

RLUSD Integration Targets Faster International Settlements

One key aspect of the partnership has been the integration of RLUSD into Flutterwave’s payment rails and Send App remittance corridors.Incorporating RLUSD into Flutterwave payment rails and corridors of Send App is one of the partnership key aspects. This means that businesses that rely on the services of Flutterwave may experience shorter settlement periods, as well as more consistent fees and costs.

The firms also aim to leverage the XRP Ledger for transaction clearing, and integrate Flutterwave’s local payment platform with Ripple Payments via a common API. The idea behind this is to reduce the friction in the flow of capital from their local markets to abroad payment systems.

Stablecoins have emerged as significant players in today’s payment ecosystem, says Ripple Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa Reece Merrick. He stated that “Our investment will get RLUSD built into that and settle the real-world payments across the continent by Flutterwave, which will also help drive stablecoin flows over the XRPL.

The companies plan to make Ripple Payments’ speed and efficiency available to regional cross-border transactions that would facilitate businesses and consumers to access lower-cost financial services, Merrick added.

Partnership Supports Flutterwave’s Long-Term Growth Plans

The investment will support the company’s stablecoin payment strategy and infrastructure roll-out as well as its overall growth, Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola said. He said, “The investment is a critical step forward in our journey, and we’re able to take our infrastructure to a bigger scale and continue our payments roadmap via our stablecoin.

By accelerating cross-border payments settlement and lowering payment costs, “we are creating a payment superhighway that will link African commerce directly to the global economy,” Agboola added. Nowadays, Flutterwave is one of the biggest payment platforms in Africa. The company has generated over $500 million in capital raised and over one billion transactions worth over $50 billion.

The partnership marks a crucial development in the spread of stablecoin usage in African businesses, especially given the integration of RLUSD into Flutterwave’s payment platform. Finally, Ripple and Flutterwave are making RLUSD a viable solution for cross-border transactions and promoting the adoption of blockchain-based financial services across the continent.
