Ripple has taken part in Flutterwave’s Series E funding round with a strategic investment in the African payments firm. The move strengthens their existing partnership and supports plans to bring RLUSD into cross-border payment systems across Africa.
Flutterwave’s latest funding round values the company at $3.2 billion according to the announcement on Tuesday. The investment gives the firm a wider route into business payments and remittances.

Ripple and Flutterwave Plan RLUSD Settlement Integration
The partnership focuses on stablecoin-based settlement through RLUSD. Flutterwave plans to connect the asset with its payment rails and Send App corridors. The companies said the planned system will support high-volume cross-border payment channels.
The XRP Ledger will be used to help clear transactions. Flutterwave will also connect its domestic payment infrastructure with Ripple Payments. A unified API will link local payment options with enterprise settlement tools.
Those local methods include bank transfers, mobile wallets, and card networks. The companies said the structure should reduce settlement delays. They also expect it to improve liquidity and lower costs for businesses.
The investment gives Ripple a strategic position inside one of Africa’s largest payment networks. Flutterwave serves merchants, financial firms, and remittance users across several markets. Its platform supports domestic and international payment activity.
Reece Merrick, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, said Flutterwave had built a major regional network. He said the partnership would place RLUSD inside Flutterwave’s settlement infrastructure. He linked the deal to Ripple Payments’ expansion across Africa.
Flutterwave said the move supports its long-term stablecoin strategy. The company plans to use RLUSD within its existing settlement systems. It said the model may reduce dependence on traditional correspondent banking channels.
RLUSD Plan Focuses on Liquidity and Cross-Border Settlement
The companies said predictable liquidity is a key goal. Traditional settlement routes can involve delays and extra costs. The planned system is meant to support faster international payments for businesses and remittance users.
The deal also advances Ripple’s wider enterprise payment plans. The company has positioned RLUSD as a settlement asset for institutions. Its focus is on payment utility, liquidity management, and cross-border transactions.
The Flutterwave deal follows other payment projects by the company. Last week, it worked with Bitso on plans to bring MXNB to the XRP Ledger. MXNB is a Mexican peso-backed stablecoin for regulated peso liquidity.
That project targets enterprise settlement between the United States and Mexico. It adds another local currency asset to the XRP Ledger. The move places MXNB beside RLUSD in wider settlement use cases.
The company has also joined Mastercard’s Agent Pay for Machines initiative. RippleX is providing the XRP Ledger and RLUSD as settlement infrastructure for that program. The project focuses on AI-driven machine-to-machine payments.
Flutterwave said it has raised more than $500 million. It said it has processed over 1 billion transactions worth more than $50 billion. The deal expands stablecoin settlement efforts in Africa’s cross-border payments sector.
