- Ripple deploys RLUSD to support Water.org’s global water access initiative.
- Water.org uses Ripple’s stablecoin to improve funding distribution efficiency.
- Partnership expands RLUSD utility beyond payments into humanitarian development programs.
Ripple has announced a new humanitarian program that will involve its stablecoin, RLUSD, as the currency for water access programs in developing nations in collaboration with Water.org. The transfer provides RLUSD with a practical application, and will contribute to access to clean water for millions of people. To respond to this worldwide challenge that still impacts over two billion people, Water.org launched its Get Blue Campaign recently. The not-for-profit was co-founded by actor Matt Damon and engineer Gary White, and is trying to find more money to fund water and sanitation initiatives in underserved communities through corporate partnerships.
The campaign is a part of this initiative, and Ripple is a fundamental partner of the campaign. But the company’s involvement isn’t limited to money. Ripple will use RLUSD facilitate distribution of funds to Water.org’s network of microfinance partners in emerging markets. This will enable the flow of financial resources between different service providers of water and sanitation in a better manner. In the meantime, it offers other applications for RLUSD, besides payments and trading.

RLUSD – Supports Water.org’s Water Financing Strategy
WaterCredit model is Water.org’s solution for delivering low-cost credit to the water and sanitation market. It does not provide direct assistance, but operates through financial institutions which provide loans for small infrastructure projects. Ripple’s investment in RLUSD will help to enhance the capital flow in the RL ecosystem. By doing so, Water.org can keep on growing its impact and bring water to communities that don’t have access to reliable water service.

The partnership also coincides with the global water crisis, which has been a major issue recently. According to data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, direct water usage for American data centres is projected to increase to 73 billion gallons a year by 2028. The expansion of AI infrastructure is projected to play a key role in driving that growth. However Water.org’s campaign is not about industrial water use, it’s about providing more water to homes. The organization hopes to assist families to find sustainable financing solutions and to obtain long-term solutions.
Ripple Expands RLUSD Beyond Financial Applications
This Water.org project is part of a series of work that have leveraged the RLUSD beyond its traditional systems of payments. In September 2025, Ripple will provide $15 million of RLUSD in support to Accion Opportunity Fund to assist entrepreneurs in need around the country. What’s more, the firm allocated $25 million in cryptocurrency to educational institutions, such as DonorsChoose and Teach For America. Those efforts proved Ripple’s commitment to blockchain-based assets to help expand social initiatives.
Ripple’s integration of RLUSD into the funding network of Water.org will expand the use of the stablecoin and support Water.org’s programs for safe water in developing markets. The partnership between Ripple and Water.org demonstrates the evolving trend of integrating the stablecoin concept into humanitarian efforts and enhancing the practical application of RLUSD.
