  • Tether open-sources MOS to streamline mining operations and eliminate reliance on closed software.
  • MOS unifies hardware, energy, and site monitoring to give miners full operational visibility.
  • Mining SDK enables developers to build custom tools faster with modular components and APIs.

Tether has open-sourced its Bitcoin Mining Operating System (MOS) to support broader decentralization in the mining sector. The company announced the move on February 2, 2026, during the Plan ₿ Forum in San Salvador, and confirmed that the software is now available to the global mining community.

The decision signals a new phase for the stablecoin issuer. It reflects the company’s aim to introduce more transparency into industrial mining systems. The release removes the need for miners to rely on proprietary software. It also allows operators to adopt a unified and open management layer.

MOS Creates Centralized Control Across Mining Infrastructure

MOS addresses fragmentation in mining operations. Many mining sites depend on separate tools for hashrate tracking, energy monitoring, cooling systems, and equipment management.

MOS consolidates these workflows into a single operating layer. The system monitors hardware performance and energy efficiency. It also tracks device health and oversees site-level operational activity.

Tether stated that the operating system supports mining facilities of different sizes. It enables small miners and large industrial operators to use the same framework.

It allows them to scale without depending on centralized management systems. MOS offers real-time visibility across mining sites. It reduces reliance on vendors and increases operational control for miners.

Tether’s CEO, Paolo Ardoino, stated that the system aims to enhance transparency and efficiency for operators. He noted that miners can manage their equipment with a unified tool. He also highlighted that MOS removes barriers created by closed software environments.

Tether Introduces SDK for Flexible Mining Integration

Tether also introduced the Mining SDK alongside MOS. The SDK is the framework used to build the operating system. It provides modular components that developers can integrate into new mining tools.

It offers simple APIs for connecting devices and site infrastructure. The SDK also includes a UI development kit for dashboards and internal systems.

The platform has confirmed that MOS is now ready for deployment. The company has also announced that the open-source community will continue to contribute to the development of the SDK.

The SDK will allow developers to develop their own mining applications without having to develop the core system from scratch.

The open-source release is a significant move in the mining industry. Mining competition is now based more on efficiency and control rather than access to exclusive software.

Tether has announced that the move has reduced the barriers to entry for miners. It has also helped in customization, reduced centralization in mining technology, and strengthened the Bitcoin network.
