According to the report, YZi Labs has entered the AI software sector with its first investment in VideoTutor, an innovative education agent that transforms questions into personalized animated lessons. The funding round raised $11 million, marking the lab’s debut in AI education technology.
The investment is reflective of YZi Labs’ large vision to support technologies that enhance learning accessibility with artificial intelligence. JinQiu Fund, Baidu Ventures, Amino Capital, and BridgeOne Capital also joined the round as investors.
For YZi Labs, the expansion matches the company’s new mission to enhance human capability via intelligent systems. The company aims to enhance its involvement in the AI learning space and target start-ups that combine scalability with a strong focus on education.
YZi Labs Backs Young Founder Building AI Tutoring Platform VideoTutor
VideoTutor was founded by founder/entrepreneur and 20-year-old college student Kai Zhao in Silicon Valley. His vision began with one simple thought: to utilize AI to provide tutoring to students who can’t afford it otherwise. Co-founder James Zha founded the VideoTutor team to turn any student’s question into a short animated lesson.
The average tutoring fee would range between $60 to $90 per hour in the U.S., leaving more than 85% of students ineligible to access tutoring services. On the other hand, VideoTutor fills the outstanding gap in tutoring by providing prompt and AI-created solutions to students whenever they need them.
Its growing base of users has already reached more than 20,000 users, while it has received more than 1,000 requests for API integration from schools and learning platforms across the globe.
The startup has managed to click with students ranging from K-12 to test takers and language learners across the world since it was launched in May 2025. The solution gives students access to complex terms in visually appealing forms.

What makes VideoTutor different is the technology it uses: it combines a large language model with Manim rendering, allowing it to create accurate videos even with structured data such as equations and diagrams.
The hybrid model ensures accuracy, clarity, and efficiency, making it an even better option to diffusion processes, which tend to overlook details. The new investment would help VideoTutor improve its AI Animation Engine technology and enter the global market.
The plan for growth involves expanding the engineering team, building infrastructure, entering new markets such as Canada and the U.K., and so on. Now with great technology and a great mission, VideoTutor is ready to enter the field and change the way students learn with AI technology worldwide.
