- Cardano enters Swiss retail as 137 SPAR stores adopt ADA payments through Open Crypto Pay.
- Open Crypto Pay cuts merchant costs and strengthens links between crypto and traditional finance.
- Urble app expands ADA utility by supporting simple savings tools for families and daily spending.
Cardano (ADA) has gained a major foothold in Swiss retail. The digital asset is now accepted at 137 SPAR supermarkets across the country. This follows a joint effort by the Cardano Foundation, DFX.swiss, and Swiss fintech Brick Towers. Their shared system uses Open Crypto Pay to bring ADA directly to checkout counters without adding complexity for shoppers.
The move introduces a clearer path for cryptocurrency use in normal spending. It also positions ADA as a direct alternative to traditional card payments. The project aims to reduce friction while offering secure blockchain-backed transactions.
Core Systems Strengthen Cardano’s Retail Push
Cardano Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard welcomed the shift. He said blockchain becomes transformative when it operates as invisible infrastructure. He added that ADA payments feel natural only when they match the simplicity of a card swipe.
DFX.swiss CEO Cyrill Thommen highlighted the efficiency aspect. He noted that Open Crypto Pay can cut merchant costs by nearly two-thirds. This lowers business expenses and encourages wider adoption across different sectors.
Open Crypto Pay sits at the center of the rollout. It allows for easy conversion between crypto and fiat currencies. Users can exchange ADA into normal currency via their DFX.swiss accounts. This creates a direct link between Cardano’s network and conventional banking systems.
Brick Towers provides an additional layer via the Urble app. The app provides simple tools for ADA-based savings.

Co-CEO Ralph Hofacker said that Urble aims to change digital assets so they are not used for speculation. He said that Urble allows families to set savings goals and use ADA in real-life situations.
Switzerland Continues Advancing Crypto Adoption
Switzerland has shown continued interest in cryptocurrency use. Cities like Zug and Lugano have been favorable to digital payment use for several years. Their efforts have provided a foundation for the growth of cryptocurrency use in retail to take off quickly.
SPAR has been using Bitcoin through the Lightning Network in the past. This is the starting point for cryptocurrency use in the company. Today, ADA has been added to the list of available cryptocurrencies for use in making purchases.
Retail partners like Binance Pay and KuCoin Pay have been instrumental in allowing SPAR to reach out to a wider audience with cryptocurrency use. Their products enable users to access over 100 cryptocurrencies.
At the time of writing, Cardano trades at $0.2719. It shows a 2.1% drop over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
