An Ethereum developer known as “Fede’s Intern” was detained in Izmir, Turkey, over the weekend. Authorities claimed he helped people misuse the Ethereum network. They did not share specific details about the allegations.
He is an independent Argentinian researcher of zero-knowledge tech and blockchain infrastructure. He refuted the allegations and stated that his projects are only on infrastructures. They confirmed cooperating with legal representatives and will be leaving Turkey soon.
Ethereum and Solana Communities Offer Support
The charge stemmed from Turkey’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, said the developer. “Misuse” of Ethereum has not been explicitly defined. Observers of markets maintain that such a term has no particular legal basis under Turkish law. Market observers accept the fact that Turkey has the tendency of applying commercial and penal codes in dealing with crypto cases.
The developer shared updates on social media during the incident. He said he was moved to a private room and given food. He later stated that arrangements were in place for him to travel by private jet to Europe. Once there, he plans to address the matter through a team of lawyers.
He received support from both the Ethereum and Solana communities. A few provided him with legal contacts to help him. Crypto proponents cautioned that the lawsuit might indicate overreach on the part of regulators or misinterpretation of blockchain infrastructure.
