Bitcoin Core released version 29.0rc2 as its newest candidate version which brings essential changes for network-wide security together with enhanced performance and transaction processing capabilities. Bitcoin development team declared this update as their largest version update since they rolled out version 28.0 in October 2024.
Users can now test the release candidate through its availability because the candidate features essential technical modifications that modify peer-to-peer communication protocols and wallet functionality and mining algorithms. Ephemeral dust stands as the main discussion point due to its new inclusion in the mempool policy.
Under the new policy a transaction can contain an exclusive dust output provided it pays no transaction costs. This dust requirement becomes valid only when all unconfirmed outputs are used in the transaction package that deposits the dust. The new approach provides superior small-value output management while simultaneously strengthening transaction qualifications.
Bitcoin Core now stops the system startup process unless the configured minimum weight units reach at least 2,000 units. The built-in security feature ensures proper configuration because it prevents unstable or unpredictable system behavior caused by mistaken parameter settings.
