  • Cardano confirms Leios remains exclusive to its network despite being open-source.
  • Leios builds on Peras to improve transaction finality, speed, and node synchronization.
  • Tiered transaction fees and reduced syncing overhead mark major improvements with Leios.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson declared that Leios functions as an exclusive upgrade protocol implemented within the Cardano network after six years of development. Hoskinson declared through his latest X posts that Leios remains the exclusive blockchain protocol that operates within Cardano despite being open-source.

The Cardano team presents Leios as its complete solution to resolve the blockchain trilemma concerning the compromise between scalability and security alongside decentralization. The clarification from Hoskinson eliminates uncertainty about other networks that could integrate the upgrade.

The official priority for Leios began when network development shifted attention from previous upgrades in October 2024. The protocol received seven dedicated full-time developers from Cardano at that moment, demonstrating how important it was for the platform’s future direction.

Leios Expands on Peras Innovations to Target Speed, Finality, and Transaction Flexibility

Leios takes its core from Ouroboros Peras by developing enhancements that deliver faster transaction confirmation and strengthen voter functionality in Cardano’s consensus network framework. The Peras system decreases the probability of block rollback events threatening application systems that need quick and dependable confirmation processes, such as partner chains and exchanges.

The update fixed Prao’s vulnerabilities by making the transaction process faster and the network more reliable. The Leios system addresses centuries-old performance problems arising from dependency issues between communication blocks.

The update brings a fee system with different rates, enabling users to select faster transaction processing. Users acquire control over transaction speed through this system, which seeks to enhance user experience during busy periods.

New nodes that return to the network can synchronize faster because Leios prevents a full reprocessing of every existing smart contract. The new system decreases network workload and leads to increased computational speed.

The open-source status of the Leios framework has not led to any network adopting its implementation. Hoskinson states that Cardano currently operates as the only blockchain system employing Leios.

Conclusion

Cardano dedicates its strategic resources to the Leios protocol, which aims to resolve obstacles to decentralized blockchain infrastructure performance without compromising security excellence.
