  • Arthur Britto breaks a 14-year silence with a single emoji, sparking wild XRP community theories.
  • Ripple CTO David Schwartz hints Britto’s post may have stopped a long-set deadman switch from triggering.
  • A leaked deal showing Britto holds 2% of XRP supply adds to speculation about his mysterious return.

Ripple cofounder Arthur Britto has broken his 14-year silence with a cryptic social media post. The move triggered ripples throughout the XRP community, and strong speculation about his role at Ripple in the future grew again.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz alleged Britto might have fired the post to avoid a pre-determined deadman switch. This switch could have been set to redeem Britto’s private keys to the XRP wallets 15 years after they stopped being used.

Schwartz assumed that Britto might have forgotten about turning off the system and had no alternative. Thus, the only way to prevent the switch could have been the general population’s post consisting of only one emoji.

Although the theory was discussed with jokes, it instantly attracted the whole XRP community. Schwartz emphasized that Britto’s account had not been hacked, and she and Britto had been chatting recently to confirm the post.

Britto, the developer who participated in formulating the XRP codebase 12 years back, has chosen to stay absolutely in the dark. There are no trusted images of him on the Internet, nor has he ever conducted an interview, which makes it an enigma.

His account, which has been inactive since its creation, received almost four million views upon the publication of the post. Within hours, the number of followers also topped 60,000, which is a marker for the level of interest the people are showing.

Community Stunned by Deadman Switch Theory and Renewed Britto Speculation

A leaked deal showed that Britto had been assigned 2 percent of the total number of XRP tokens. This news, which broke out only a few weeks before the mysterious post, along with ideas of a potential re-joining of the Ripples inner world, has emerged.

The sudden post by Britto has not only rejuvenated the curiosity about his role but also caused community-wide discussions. Others assume that it may indicate a change in the direction of Ripple, whereas others are hesitant, considering Britto’s privacy.

Schwartz’s mention of a potential deadman switch has added a new layer of drama to the situation. The point is fronted as a joke, but it corresponds with the behavior of Britto, who was very secretive and had a background in technical aspects.

So far, Britto or Ripple has not updated anything about his future intentions. Nevertheless, the XRP community is keeping an eye on his account to see the second post.
