A significant upgrade introduced by Solana (SOL) is set to improve scalability and throughput. On May 5, the development service Helius announced the launch of Agave v2.2. This will improve the Solana validator client through increased block capacity and other network improvements. The changes are intended to allow Solana’s blockchain to process transactions more quickly and scale better.

With Agave v2.2, the compute unit count block capacity is raised from 50 million to 60 million, an increase of 20%. This enables Solana to process more transactions per second and solve congestion issues it previously endured. This makes the network performance smoother for users and developers, as well as increases the scalability.

Enhanced Developer Tools

The replacement of Merkle trees with an Account lattice hash also represents another key change. This also improves any existing model that tracks the entire data set, instead of just updates to accounts. This will decrease the network’s load and efficiency. This change allows Solana to scale faster and reduce costs for validators.

It also brings features that are developer-friendly. Now developers are able to update and pause applications without deleting them. They can fix specific parts of an app if they come across bugs without needing to re-upload the whole codebase. This saves time and uses fewer computing resources, enabling a better development process.

In addition, developers will no longer be constrained in connection of app components. Workarounds that previously restricted caller connections are removed during the upgrade. Doing so will make it easier to work with the blockchain and streamline the process of building and deploying apps on Solana.

Solana Enhances Security Features

New security features for end users are added to the update. The step of safer app usage now comes along with password free logins for Solana. This is a feature that elevates the ease of use and the security for Web2 users making the shift from Web2 to DApps in Solana.

Solana was criticized in 2022 as the network experienced outages. The collapse of FTX, a major validator on the chain, exacerbated these issues. But the network has now stabilized, and this latest upgrade is a demonstration of the willingness of Solana to enhance the performance and stability.

With the introduction of Agave v2.2, Solana is becoming even more competitive in the blockchain space. The network’s enhanced scalability and throughput are expected to lead more developers and users to adopt it further.
