On X, Buterin issued a warning that digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of a small number of powerful forces. Such concentration, according to Buterin, poses a threat to privacy, freedom, and independent participation on the Internet. He therefore encouraged developers and builders to preserve Ethereum’s original values rather than pursue corporate-style growth.

Buterin Urges Developers to Protect Crypto’s Core Values
According to Butterin, Ethereum would not be trying to replicate big technology firms. Most technological giants develop systems focusing on convenience and refined digital services. Nevertheless, he stated that crypto networks should focus on openness and decentralization of control instead.
In addition to those warnings, Buterin also admitted to criticism of Ethereum’s actual influence in the real world. Others who view this claim say the network has not yet made a big difference in everyday life. In addition, its critics also think that the development of blockchain is not always aimed at social good but is based on technical innovation.
However, Buterin maintained that Ethereum can shape the future of digital systems worldwide. He stressed that privacy, autonomy, and community coordination protection remain critical to blockchain networks. The developers, therefore, should keep on creating systems that safeguard these rights in the online space.
Ethereum’s Role in Preventing Total Digital Control
Buterin referred to Ethereum as a larger ecosystem building what he called “sanctuary technologies.” These applications enable individuals to interact, collaborate, and manage financial resources through open infrastructure. Also, they enable individuals and communities to work without being overly controlled.
Buterin holds that, with the help of sanctuary technologies, pressure by influential institutions becomes more resilient. Therefore, it is not easy for governments or corporations to dominate the entire digital sphere. According to him, this will ensure that there is no complete control in online systems.

Further, decentralized systems spread power among numerous participants as opposed to having it in one location. Consequently, communities will remain influential even when large organizations seek to influence digital systems. With this model, the online economies are better balanced in their participation.
The message by Butterin also draws on the ideas of early cypherpunk philosophers who shaped the evolution of cryptocurrencies. The pioneers were the advocates of encryption and open networks as a means of fighting surveillance and the concentration of power. Most of those initial tenets can still be traced in the philosophy of Ethereum development.
