A bold proposal is drawing attention across the digital asset community as Bitcoin mining entrepreneur Ross Calvin pushes for a monumental project. According to Bloomberg, Calvin plans to present his $450 million proposal for a massive Prometheus statue on Alcatraz Island to President Donald Trump.
Calvin, the founder of a Bitcoin mining company, Parhelion, in Denver, wants to convert the old prison building into a human creation monument. The intended statue of 450 feet made of nickel-bronze would be over the Statue of Liberty and more than half the height of the Golden Gate Bridge. To accomplish this, Alcatraz would have to be redesignated as a national monument rather than a national park, which would have to be approved by the president.

A Monument of Symbolism and Ambition
Calvin sees the statue of Prometheus as an icon of Western values and artistic creativity through his nonprofit, American Colossus. He referred to the project as a lightning rod to the noble destiny of the West. It is also planned to have a museum on site where art, technology, and exploration will be displayed. The nonprofit is preparing to hand over elaborate designs and renderings to President Trump by January.
Calvin has experienced little success in his bid to connect the project and the crypto community with a Prometheus memecoin. It was issued in mid-July of 2025 through the BelieveApp and has a market capitalization of approximately 12,000 at present. According to the American Colossus website, the experiment was short-term, and no long-term expectations were made.
Challenges and Global Expansion Plans
The evolution of the project is no longer associated with philosopher Jason Jorjani, who used to be on the team of the nonprofit. The site of Parhelion shows that it has been mining with 25 megawatts of computing power running in Kurdish Iraq. The company is also spreading into Syria, Egypt, Libya, and Algeria, which are indicative of its increased internationalization interests.
Calvin, as a Bitcoin miner since 2013, is determined to combine technology, symbolism, and art using this monument on a grand scale. His vision, executed, would make Alcatraz Island a monumental object of the current ambition and ideology instead of a place of the old prison.
