  • TON fees dropped sixfold as Durov confirmed transfers now cost about $0.0005.
  • Telegram will replace TON Foundation and become the network’s largest validator.
  • TON fixed fees aim to prevent congestion spikes and support low-cost payments.

TON transaction fees have dropped by six times, lowering the cost to about $0.0005 per transfer. Pavel Durov announced the update and said the rollout will take place within the next two to three weeks.

Durov shared the announcement on X on Monday. He stated that fees on TON are now close to zero after the reduction. The update marks a major change in how transactions are priced.

He also confirmed a leadership shift within TON. Telegram will replace the TON Foundation as the main driving force. It will also become the largest validator on the network.

Telegram Deepens TON Control

This change gives Telegram more control over the Open Network operations. It also increases its responsibility for validation and network direction. The move links Telegram more closely with TON development.

Durov had previously clarified the amount of fee change on April 23. He estimated that the cost would decrease to approximately 0.00039 TON per transaction as compared to 0.00235 TON. This equals roughly $0.0005 per transfer.

The new system adds fixed charges on TON. The costs will not increase even in the times when the network activity is at its peak. There will be no sudden surges because of congestion.

Prior to this update, TON already had fees that were lower than most blockchains. Nevertheless, the charges might still vary in the peak season. The new model eliminates such variation.

Durov also mentioned the MTONGA roadmap for TON. According to him, it seeks to transform most of the transactions into free transactions in the future. The plan is aimed at the realization of zero-commission transfer.

TON Pushes Near-Zero Fees

With the update, the Open Network is ranked as one of the cheapest blockchain networks. During peak times, Ethereum rates may rise to between $1 and $10. Bitcoin transactions typically cost between $0.50 and $5.

Another feature of Solana is an increased cost when the traffic grows. TON has currently focused on almost zero transfer fees. This favors low payments and high-frequency transactions.

The number of users within Telegram enhances the penetration of TON. Over 950 million users are spread throughout the world. It enables payments, tips, and transfers in the application.

Durov added that there will be more updates to TON. These would involve enhanced developer tools and performance improvement. The anticipated timeframe will be two to three weeks.

The token has also registered new gains. At the time of writing, the coin is trading at $1.45. CoinMarketCap data shows that the price has increased by 7.96% in 24 hours and 12% in the last week.
