Trezor, a hardware crypto wallet firm, announced today that it has won a 2026 Red Dot Award in the Product Design category for its Safe 7 hardware wallet. The recognition highlights its design focus on usability and security for everyday crypto users worldwide.
The Red Dot Award has run since 1955. It is one of the largest global design competitions. The win places Safe 7 among past winners such as Apple, Sony, Dyson, and Ferrari. These brands have also received recognition for product design quality.
Trezor Safe 7 Drives Growth With Simple Secure Design
Trezor said Safe 7 is the most widely used hardware wallet to win this award. The company reported more than 2 million devices shipped since 2014. This figure reflects long-term adoption across its product line.
Safe 7 serves as the company’s main device. It focuses on simple use and strong protection. The wallet includes a haptic touchscreen. Users interact with it through touch instead of buttons. This design aims to improve ease of access.
The device operates on fully open-source software. Its code is publicly available for review. It also uses the TROPIC01 transparent secure element. This chip is designed for open verification. The wallet stores crypto assets offline to maintain user control.
However, Trezor indicated that the award was judged by 40 design experts. These professionals belonged to various areas. The company assured that the recognition will be highlighted during the Red Dot Gala. It will be held on July 7, in Essen, Germany.
Adam Budinaky, Head of Hardware at Trezor, spoke about the product vision. He asserted that hardware wallets usually seem complicated to new users. This attitude may prevent adoption. He stated that the Safe 7 was created to overcome that problem.

Budínský said the design aims to match everyday devices. He observed that this direction was supported by the user feedback. He said the award is based on the opinion of the users of the product. It demonstrates that usability is an important aspect of adoption.
Hardware Wallet Adoption Lags
Trezor was also sharing user behavior information. It claimed that 98% of crypto users retain funds in exchanges or custodial wallets. This is a trend that is being pursued despite its known dangers. Hardware wallets are yet to be adopted by many users.
However, the company attributed this reluctance to a number of factors. They are afraid of losing phases of recovery and complicated setup procedures. It further observed that ambiguous designs hinder adoption. These problems influence the trust of users in self-custody solutions.
Trezor cited the FTX meltdown. It reported that the incident decreased the confidence in exchanges. This, however, has not resulted in widespread use of hardware wallets. The discrepancy between awareness and action persists.
Budinsky also discussed attitudes towards open-source systems. He claimed that they are perceived as less sophisticated by some of the users. He noted that Trezor wants to transform that perception. The company targets the integration of proven security and uncomplicated design.
