- BlackRock and Fidelity executives to join SEC’s high-stakes crypto roundtable on May 12.
- Tokenization of assets takes center stage as Wall Street meets blockchain at SEC headquarters.
- SEC roundtable to explore how traditional finance firms are adapting to decentralized technologies.
Top financial executives from leading institutions plan to attend the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s crypto-focused roundtable session on May 12. Traditional finance leaders from SEC headquarters in Washington D.C. will lead discussions on decentralized technology engagement through asset tokenization at this May event.
The growing presence of Wall Street in the digital asset space will be showcased by BlackRock’s Robert Mitchnick and Fidelity’s Cynthia Lo Bessette participating in the upcoming panel discussions. Nasdaq, Invesco, Apollo Management, Franklin Templeton, DTCC, SuperState, and the Tokenized Asset Coalition members will serve as additional representatives.
Chief of Staff Richard B. Gabbert from the SEC’s Crypto Task Force will kick off the session. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins will give the keynote presentation, followed by presentations from Commissioners Caroline A. Crenshaw, Mark T. Uyeda, and Hester M. Peirce.
Wall Street, Blockchain Leaders to Explore Tokenization Frameworks
The afternoon section will feature two group discussions. The Evolution of Finance: Capital Markets 2.0 is the title of the first-panel discussion at this conference. Capital Markets 2.0 features moderator Jeff Dinwoodie from Cravath. The group will investigate how asset tokenization transforms current financial systems and examine future adaptations of regulatory norms.
Commissioner Peirce has noted that tokenization could bring significant changes to financial markets. She wanted to learn how business leaders think regulatory systems would protect investors while fostering innovation.
This is considered the third installment of four public gatherings initiated by the SEC in March to obtain community feedback on crypto asset rules. The final session, “DeFi and the American Spirit,” has a June 6 date. Previous attendees of that specific event received automatic knowledge updates.
Hosted between 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on May 12, the event enables both physical attendance and live streaming access to the public. The SEC website streams the event live, while physical attendees need prior registration.
The SEC roundtable with Wall Street participants signals increased involvement of the financial industry in developing crypto finance directions. The upcoming regulatory strategy concerning tokenized assets depends heavily on the discussion that results from this event.
